My word for 2016

  
Instead of a resolution, I always pick a word for the new year. The word serves as inspiration & intention for that whole year. My word for 2016 is: CREATE. I want to focus on my goals more this year and I want to create. What is your word?

Quick winter dinner idea!

  
Ok, it’s cold in California. Really cold. It’s 35 degrees & I know there are colder places in the world, but holy moly, come on! Californians can’t handle this kind of weather. Considering it’s 45 degrees colder than my ideal temp, I am creating a lot of warming foods lately. 

This is a lentil bruschetta stew & it is SO EASY to make that it’s a must try! 

All ingredients can be purchased at Trader Joe’s. If you don’t have a TJ’s near you, you can still make it, it just takes twice as long. 

Ingredients from TJ’s that you’ll need:

– 1 package of pre-cooked lentils

– 1 container of fresh bruschetta, not the jar kind.

– 1/2 avocado


Directions:

Warm lentils in a saucepan with a little veggie broth on medium heat. Add in entire container of bruschetta and stir frequently until hot. Serves two, garnish with avocado. It is so flavorful!!!

What’s for breakfast?

  
Irish oatmeal porridge (gluten free of course). This is one of my staples during winter. I still have my smoothies, just not everyday like the summer. 

Oats are great for blood sugar, cholesterol & preventing heart disease as well as being packed full of fiber. 

What is your favorite way to eat oats?? Mine is with fruit, sliced almonds & a drizzle of maple syrup.

Mind over Matter?

Our minds are extremely powerful. It is incredible how much potential we have if we believe. Sometimes you start by believing in smaller goals and work your way up to bigger ones. Sometimes that is the only way to avoid becoming consumed by fear of the process and reaching for the stars. Breaking down into smaller pieces can help. Then you can do anything. Do you have a goal you are working towards or struggling with currently?

What is your self-care practice?

 
I pick an inspiration word each year instead of a New Years resolution. My word for 2015 was SELF-CARE. It is indeed a
must. Before we can be good humans for anything & anyone else, we must take care of ourselves.

I’m looking forward to picking my word for 2016! What are you doing to take care of yourself today? 

Do you stress during the holidays?

  
What is the deeper purpose today? My deeper purpose today is compassion. The holidays cause people a lot of stress and that causes those people to have rude behavior, (yes I’m talking to the rude people I encountered at Target yesterday). I want to work on not letting those rude people affect me. I used to be really good at this but it has become harder. I ALWAYS do try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. Maybe they are going through a hard time, illness, anxiety, anything. My Buddha statue always reminds me to be more compassionate. It’s the season of giving so let’s give more smiles! 😀

Our holiday in Tahoe

  
I’m a little late getting this post up but we had a recent family trip to Lake Tahoe during Thanksgiving & it was a white Thanksgiving! There was so much snow & it was sooooo cold. 

It was nice to have a change of scenery and hang out with cousins AND it was Ava’s first trip to see snow. 

There’s so much to be grateful for. I just found out a few days before Thanksgiving that I’m still cancer-free, 2 years in remission! This was the best news in the world. It’s not easy living with that in the back of your mind but I’ve chosen to always live for each day & to not think about that. What a blessing it is to have my sweet girl & to be alive and healthy.
